It’s s o weird, seeing a Dakota with a tandem axle.

So....they used a dakota to save fuel, but got a tandem axle because it wasn’t strong enough.....
I feel like someone got something horribly wrong in the design process for this vehicle.

And it’s the 3.9 V6, too. I can’t imagine that it’s that great to drive...

Maybe they wanted something with a smaller cab to maximize space available for the over-cab area?

Trying to use that logic, I can’t follow that train of thought. Why not use a slightly lower spring setup for a full size pickup single cab? Motorhomes aren’t built on trucks to be used off road, so you could easily design a bit of a lowered pickup or van chassis to get your increased overhead area while not having to make a tandem axle setup on a chassis never designed for one.

I hoped they spec’d it with the limited slip diff, otherwise I could see that thing having trouble with stuff like normal driveway entrances when the tag axle unloads the drive. Even then, it still wouldn't be great.
